Our History
Timeline
We are: 1) co-learning and educating on local, national, and global community capital models, strategies, and opportunities for collective place-based Just Recovery and Transition; 2) building relationships between funders, investors and community-based organization and leaders engaged in Just Transition and Recovery work; 3) curating resources and research; and 4) piloting experimental democratic decision-making models that empower people of color to make economic development decisions.
The People’s Economy Lab Steering Committee forms to provide a vision and anchor the work in frontline communities. We advance a shared network; convene leaders, ideas, and conversations; and execute projects such as the New Economy Washington (NEW) Frontline Community Fellowship.
The Peoples’ Economy Lab becomes an independent project. Current Lab Leaders members join the team. Along with the original Lab network, they form the Community Capital Working Group. People’s Economy Lab, partners to develop the New Economy Washington: A Path Forward articulates the vision and principles for creating an equitable future for Washingtonians, and puts forward recommendations for building a path to get us there.
The People’s Economy Lab is formed. Local economy leaders working on the ground in innovative ways come together to create a blueprint for a local economy that is equitable, diverse, and resilient, as an antidote to the persistent, systemic economic inequity that plagues Seattle’s communities.
